R&D Engineer - Microbiology & Molecular biology
R&D Engineer Microbiology & Molecular Biology at Generare : join a fast-growing Paris biotech team to advance microbe-based discovery, collaborate across teams, and drive impactful projects
About Generare
At Generare, we’re reopening one of humanity’s most powerful sources of innovation : the natural evolved chemistry of microbes.
We’ve built a discovery engine that blends synthetic biology, computational biology, and automation to explore the vast 97% of microbial natural products that remain undiscovered, and to turn that hidden diversity into a rapidly growing library of truly novel bioactive molecules.
The platform is already running at industrial scale, revealing new scaffolds and modes of action faster than any other approach, and unlocking fresh routes to tackle antimicrobial resistance, cancer, parasitic diseases, and major agricultural needs.
Generare was created in 2023 from the landmark work of Dr. Vincent Libis and is scaling fast. We’re 30 brilliant people in the heart of Paris today, growing rapidly next year, and building the team that will bring nature’s molecular library to the next wave of medicines and sustainable crop protection.
Role overview
You will join the R&D synthetic biology team to contribute to a range of projects optimizing our discovery pipeline, from soil-derived microbial samples to the production of valuable therapeutic compounds.
Your projects will span microbiology and molecular biology, from engineering model and non-model bacteria and fungi to developing and refining protocols for our production team. Your work directly shapes what new chemistry Generare can access.
You will collaborate closely with the other members of the synbio R&D team and partner with chemistry & bioassays teams, production, and bioinformatics to keep projects moving end-to-end.
Key responsabilities
Execute projects at the bench: run experiments, analyze data, troubleshoot. Techniques span molecular biology (including but not limited to PCR, cloning, DNA extraction, nanopore sequencing) and microbiology (strain isolation, bacterial and fungal culture, fermentation,...)
Take part to the project management : brainstorming & literature review, experimental design, day-to-day planning, and rigorous reporting to ensure traceability, documentation and quality of experimental results
Cross-team collaboration : work hand-in-hand with the Synbio team and other teams across the company to deliver on R&D objectives
Profile
Education : Master’s degree or engineering diploma in biology, microbiology or biotechnology
Experience : 2-5 years of laboratory experience (academic and/or industry)
Technical skills :
Solid command of molecular biology and microbiology technics (PCR, transformation, cloning, microbial culture etc)
Prior experience with filamentous fungi is a strong plus
Mindset & soft skills :
Proactive and curious: take the initiative to propose new ideas and protocols, optimize existing ones
Strong team player who communicates proactively
Comfortable iterating when protocols do not work the first time
Rigorous with experimental traceability and reporting (both written and oral), well-organized and autonomous in managing day-to-day work
Languages : fluent English is required, French is a plus
Practical information
Contract : permanent (CDI), full-time
Start date : as soon as possible
Location : Paris 14ème arrondissement, on-site role
Salary : based on experience
Benefits : meal vouchers, sustainable mobility allowance, Alan health insurance 100% covered
Hiring process :
First interview : introduction call (25-30 minutes call)
Second interview : on-site technical interview with two team members (1h30)
Final interview with the CEO/CSO & reference calls
